The National Museum of the Philippines – Tabon Cave Complex and Lipuun Point (NMP – TCCLP) is proud to announce Siburan: Pottery Making Experience, a cultural and educational program aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation for the living traditions of our ancestors through the art of pottery. This event will be held at Tawa-Tawa, Barangay Panitian, Quezon, Palawan on 05 December 2024.
The event will feature a lecture, demonstration, and hands-on workshop, all facilitated by esteemed master potters Elordie T. Mesac, George O. Bacaltos, Henry A. Saldajeno Jr., and Charlie D. Lascon. This engaging public activity will take place on December 5, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Tawa-Tawa, Barangay Panitian, Quezon, Palawan. Participants will include Grade VI learners from Quezon Central School and Senior High School (SHS) learners from the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track of Quezon National High School. A limited number of slots are also available for interested individuals through online registration, and the event will be open to the public for viewing.
The program will begin with a compelling lecture on pottery’s cultural and socio-economic significance among the Tagbanua indigenous group. Participants will then witness a traditional pottery-making demonstration by Tagbanua master potters. To cap off the experience, attendees will get hands-on and immerse themselves in pottery-making artistry during an interactive workshop.
The activity’s objectives are to increase awareness and appreciation of the cultural value of pottery, recognizing its significance in preserving heritage. It also aims to promote the living traditions of indigenous groups, particularly the Tagbanua, and to help cultivate the artistic talent of today’s youth by offering them hands-on experience in traditional pottery-making. Through this activity, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the cultural importance of pottery and contribute to preserving this valuable art form for future generations.
This activity not only celebrates the enduring beauty of traditional crafts but also strengthens the connection between communities and their cultural heritage.
