Empowering Palawan’s Coastal Communities with Sustainable Solutions

CDR Jack Ryan C. Basitao (Chief of Staff CGDPAL), Jose Paolo L. Delgado (President/CEO Delbros Group), ATTY. Teodoro Jose S. Matta, MNSA (Executive Director PCDS), Roberto Asiado (Member and representative of the fishermen of Kalayaan), Frank Earl Fabellar (Executive Assistant II)

Delbros Group, a leader in logistics, technology, food production, and community development, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility with the donation of solar-powered lights and cold storage solutions to beneficiaries in Palawan. The donation, which aims to improve working conditions and operational efficiency, was formally turned over to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), the Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDPAL), and fishermen from Kalayaan. These donations to Palawan form part of a broader ongoing initiative by Delbros to distribute solar-powered equipment to various coastal and remote communities across the country.

The recent turnover ceremony was held at the PCSD Building, Sports Complex Road, Brgy. Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa City, and attended by key stakeholders, including Frank Earl Fabellar, Executive Assistant II representing Hon. Roberto M. Del Mundo, Mayor of the Municipality of Kalayaan, who delivered the welcome message.

“We would like to thank Delbros and PCSD, as this would not have been possible without your leadership. We would like to express our heartfelt and sincere gratitude to everybody. You have been a tremendous partner of the LGU and of the West Philippine Sea, not just in sustainable development but for also being an active and participating stakeholder in the local special bodies. We hope these will create a positive impact on the livelihoods in the West Philippines Sea, that in turn, have a positive impact on our country,” said Fabellar.

Jose Paolo L. Delgado, President and CEO of Delbros Group, led the formal turnover, reinforcing Delbros’ mission to support communities through sustainable and innovative solutions.

Delivering Practical Solutions for Fishermen and Local Agencies

The donation provides essential solar lights and cold storage units to improve safety, productivity, and quality of life for its recipients. The distribution includes:

  • 1 Freezer + 20 Solar Lights for the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD)
  • 20 Solar Lights for the Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDPAL)
  • 115 Solar Lights for the Fishermen of Kalayaan

For the fishermen of Kalayaan, these solar-powered lights will enhance nighttime visibility, allowing extended working hours and improving overall safety at sea. The portable cold storage units will help preserve their catch, reducing spoilage and increasing market value.

A Collective Effort to Strengthen Palawan’s Coastal Resilience

The initiative extends beyond fishing communities, supporting local authorities such as the Philippine Coast Guard and PCSD, whose personnel rely on reliable energy solutions for operations in remote areas.

“By providing solar-powered lighting and efficient cold storage, we are not only supporting livelihoods but also promoting sustainability in Palawan’s coastal regions,” said Jose Paolo L. Delgado, President and CEO of Delbros Group. “This initiative underscores our continuing commitment to helping communities thrive through innovative solutions that align with our sustainability goals.”

During the ceremony, Atty. Teodoro Jose Saddul Matta, Executive Director of PCSD, and Commo. Dennis Rem C. Labay, Commander of CGDPAL, expressed their gratitude, emphasizing how these donations will improve logistical efficiency and service delivery in Palawan’s remote areas.

“This initiative by Delbros is a perfect example of the power of collaboration in fostering sustainability and resilience in Palawan. The donation of solar-powered lights and cold storage solutions directly benefits our coastal communities, enabling better resource management and improving livelihoods,” said Atty. Matta.

“By integrating renewable energy into daily operations, we are not only supporting our fisherfolk and our coast guard personnel, but also reinforcing our commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development,” added Commo. Labay.

Member and  representative of the fishermen of Kalayaan, Roberto Asiado, also shared their appreciation, noting how this initiative will have a long-term impact on their daily fishing operations.

“We are so thankful because this will be a big help for the fishermen, as there are times where disaster strikes, like strong winds or waves, and lights are needed in order to save, rescue, and ensure the safety of our fishermen. For us fishermen, having access to solar lights means safer and more productive nights at sea. It allows us to extend our working hours and improve our catch without worrying about visibility. The cold storage solution is also a huge help in keeping our fish fresh, giving us better chances of earning a fair price at the market. We are deeply grateful to Delbros for providing us with these tools that will truly make a difference in our daily lives,” said Asiado.

ASW Miykee Madronio, Member, Chief of District Staff Office and PCG’s 81 “Angels of the Sea” also attended. The “Angels of the Sea” refers to the all-female radio operators of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), trained to be the “voice of peace and rules-based order at sea,” particularly in the West Philippine Sea, aiming to de-escalate tensions through communication.

“We thank you for what you have donated, and now our fishermen have something that will help them in their livelihoods. This will help us also monitor and mobilize our security. This will surely help us be more confident as we do our jobs, that we will return to land safe and secure. These lights don’t only provide light to the people here, but also to the country and nation as a whole,” said Madronio.

A Continued Commitment to Sustainability

Delbros remains committed to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, ensuring that renewable energy solutions reach underserved communities. This latest effort in Palawan reinforces the company’s long-term vision of sustainable development through technology-driven solutions.

The event concluded with the ceremonial signing of the Deed of Donation, followed by group photos with beneficiaries and key stakeholders, marking another milestone in Delbros’ efforts to uplift communities in coastal and remote regions of the Philippines.
