RIZAL, PALAWAN – The sun had barely set over the rolling hills of Rizal, Palawan when a five-year-old girl tugged at her mother’s sleeve, her eyes wide with wonder. Just like the other kids in town, she joined hundreds of other community members gathered at the Lionheart Farms’ Punta Baja Office on a warm Thursday evening.

Her wait wouldn’t be long. As dusk settled over the agricultural community on November 28, more than 500 local residents came together for what has become a cherished local tradition – the annual Christmas decorations lighting ceremony at Lionheart Farms.

“In our small town, moments like these become memories that last a lifetime,” shared Katerine Reyes, a longtime Rizal resident who attended with her family. “When I was young, we never had anything like this. Now my grandchildren get to experience the magic of Christmas in such a special way.”

The anticipation built as darkness fell. Children played while waiting in front of the Lionheart Building while their parents caught up with neighbors, creating a tapestry of laughter and conversation that epitomizes the tight-knit Palawan community. The aroma of traditional holiday treats wafted through the air, adding to the festive atmosphere.

As the crucial moment approached, the crowd gathered closer, their faces glowing with expectation. The Lionheart Farms’ pair of hosts led the countdown, their voices joining hundreds of others in unison. When the massive Christmas tree and decorations burst into light, it sparked a wave of gasps and applause that rolled through the crowd.

“This tree lighting is more than just an event – it’s our gift to the people of Rizal,” Vice President Maria Cecilia Chang explained, watching as children danced in the glow of thousands of twinkling lights. “Christmas reminds us to reflect on our blessings, express gratitude, and strengthen our connections with one another.”

The evening continued with a spirited dance performance that had everyone from toddlers to grandparents moving to the rhythm. A dance ensemble of Lionheart employees in “Let It Slow” red shirts showcased their talents, demonstrating the celebratory holiday feels that make Filipino Christmas unique.

But Lionheart Farms had one more surprise in store. Each guest received a sample of their latest innovation – a new flavor Oolong Citrus Grape of ‘The Power of Slow,’ a natural hydration drink crafted from coconut flower sap. The drink, produced entirely by Palaweño workers, represents the company’s commitment to showcasing Philippine products globally while maintaining deep local roots.

“What makes this drink special isn’t just its taste,” explained Leonardo Baylosis, a local farmer who has worked with Lionheart Farms for eight years. “It’s knowing that we’re creating something here in Rizal that people around the world will enjoy. It gives us pride in our community.”

As the evening wound down, families lingered in the glow of the Christmas lights, savoring the moment and the sense of community that made it special. The tree will remain lit throughout the holiday season, a beacon of holiday spirit and reminder of the connections that make Rizal unique.

For many children in Rizal, the evening ended with a smile as bright as the Christmas lights themselves. “Mama,” a young girl said, clutching her cup of The Power of Slow, “balik ulit tayo bukas? (Can we come back tomorrow to see the lights again?)”
