As a pre-Chinese New Year offering, the latest Chinoy film “Her Locket” is silently making waves far from the well-known Mano Po franchise, this family drama is trying to tell its audience the usual story of family, that no matter what blood is thicker than water as the old saying goes.
Her Locket focus on the story of Jewel, a Chinese woman suffering from dementia and was able to recall all her memories of the past, her struggles and how she fights for the love of her life that is not of her own kind, all of this thru the help of a locket necklace.
Portraying Jewel is the noted Filipino-Chinese actress Rebecca Chuaunsu who also won two (2) international Best Actress awards for this movie, she is so effective in her performance to the point that you are convince she is not acting at all, rather say its very natural of her to act as Jewel. No wonder most of the review of this movie is about her.
What I love about Her Locket, is the way it transitions the backstory as a retro attack, it gives fresh flavor to your eyes and its very good. The film advocates many real-life lessons one can internalize while watching, like being greedy is a sin one can commit against family member, and at the end its your blood line that can help you for whatever chaos you are in, yes value your family to the last no matter what transpired in the past.
Her Locket is produce by Chuaunsu Film Production in cooperation Rebelde Films, this movie won 8 awards in the recent Sinag Maynila Film Festival, these are Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, and Best Ensemble Acting.
Other casts are Elora Españo (as Teresa, the caregiver); Boo Gabunada (as Kyle, lawyer-son of Jewel); Sophie Ng (young Jewel); and Benedict Cua (young Magnus, brother of Jewel). Francis Mata, Jian Repolles, Tommy Alejandrino, Zoey Villamangca, Norman Ong, Nellie Ang See, Angela Villarin, Ashlee Factor, Matthew Seaver Choy, Roberto Uy Kieng, George See, Rolando Inocencio, Atty. Kesterson Kua, Atty. Allan Jao, and Dr. Philip Tan Gatue.
